TechSmith's Morae Software Provides Advanced Usability Testing Program for National Instruments

Morae's Portability Gives National Instruments the Flexibility to Collect Customer Usability Data Onsite and Offsite

Okemos, Michigan - September 27, 2005 - TechSmith Corp., the world's leading provider of screen capture and recording solutions, today announced that National Instruments has deployed Morae to conduct usability research on its corporate Web site (www.ni.com) to improve navigation, business processes and overall customer satisfaction.

For the first time ever, National Instruments was able to deploy usability testing at NIWeek, the company's annual conference attended by more than 2,300 customers. More than 75 customers and National Instruments Alliance Partner program members took part in the testing. The usability work at the conference is an important part of the company's overall usability initiative.

"We've always known how effective usability testing could be, but until Morae came along there wasn't a practical and cost-effective tool for ongoing business improvement and Web site optimization," said Nikolaus Walch, National Instruments Usability Services Manager. "Morae has changed the game. We've been able to reach out to our customers in a convenient way and they're thrilled to be taking an active role in making our Web site more effective and intuitive."

Because of its superior functionality, greater flexibility, easier implementation, and affordable pricing, Morae is breaking down barriers that had inhibited organizations from conducting usability testing in the past. Morae can be deployed on standard desktop and laptop computers, eliminating the need to rent expensive testing space, assemble complex hardware solutions, and hire video experts to run the equipment and edit the footage.

"Showing executives video of a customer interacting with their website is an amazingly powerful tool," said Shane Lovellette, Morae product manager at TechSmith. "They gain a new and deeper level of customer understanding and usability professionals can provide recommendations backed by bullet-proof validation. With Morae, companies are very quickly and easily achieving this critical benefit."

National Instruments is a technology pioneer and leader in virtual instrumentation -- a revolutionary concept that has changed the way engineers and scientists in industry, government, and academia approach measurement and automation. Headquartered in Austin, Texas, National Instruments has more than 3,600 employees and direct operations in nearly 40 countries. In 2004, the company sold products to more than 25,000 companies in 90 countries. For the past six years, FORTUNE magazine has named NI one of the 100 best companies to work for in America.

About Morae
Powered by TechSmith's patent-pending Rich-Recording Technology (RRT), Morae synchronizes real-world actions, such as user speech and facial expressions, with detailed application and computer system data to present user experience professionals with a unique view into the way that desktop software, websites, intranets and e-business applications are seen and experienced. This makes Morae the only solution that captures the total user experience by recording and synchronizing the user, the application, and the events. All data is saved and indexed automatically, it's searchable, and users can quickly create and share highlight videos with stakeholders to provide highly effective visual validation to support recommendations.
